Biography

Mrs. Dababneh heads the Intellectual Property practice of IBLAW, with extensive experience in Intellectual Property Regulatory Reform, IP Enforcement, Unfair Competition, Licensing, and Franchising. She enjoys a specialized understanding of the IP needs of key industries, and recognized as a distinguished litigator in several landmark IP judicial decisions in Jordan related to trademarks, and unfair competition matters. She has also done extensive work in respect of enforcing the Kingdom's ex officio administrative authority; and served as member of a national committee formulated to enhance the kingdom's IPR enforcement and borders ex officio authority. Mrs. Dababneh was instrumental in shaping the Jordanian intellectual property legislative framework for the Kingdom's WTO accession and had participated in the amendment of Trademarks and Patents regulations to allow implementation of the Madrid Protocol and PCT. Represented Philip Morris International in its acquisition of one of the major producers of tobacco in Jordan. She conducted a comprehensive revision and compatibility of the Kingdom's implementations of its Intellectual Property obligations under the Jordan US Free Trade Agreement (JUSFTA), and prepared the USAID's JUSFTA Legal Gap Analysis which introduces the loopholes, gaps, and obstacles in the copyright enforcement systems, and provides recommendations on mitigating such constraints. Represented the largest Jordanian Pharmaceutical Company (Al Hikma Pharmaceuticals) in a major deal in which it acquired a publicly traded company on the Amman Stock Exchange for cash consideration of JD116.0 million ($163.6 million). Ms. Dababneh contributed in the drafting and the negotiations of a major manufacturing transaction under which PHILIP MORRIS PRODUCTS S.A., manufactures its Marlboro brand in Jordan under license. In addition to drafting and negotiating major franchising transactions in the region, Ms. Dababneh prepared a comprehensive legal report on Franchising Arrangement for Micro and Small Enterprises which serves as a business guideline material identifying key legal issues involved in using franchising to enhance and promote MSE's growth and expansion. Ms. Dababneh has served many prominent multinational corporations as well as local firms and joint ventures regarding formation of their companies, litigating their rights, drafting contracts or rendering legal consultations in the fields of international trade intellectual property rights, joint ventures, technology transfer, licensing and franchising agreements, telecommunication and privatization related work. She is one of the Kingdom's key IP trainers and participated in public awareness sessions for key sectors including Parliamentarians, journalists, and Ambassadors. In addition, she has several publications on protection of Look Alike Products, Licensing and Technology Transfer, and Unfair Competition issues. She is a board member in the Jordan Association for the protection of Intellectual Property (JAPIP), a member of International Trademark Association (INTA), Arab Licensing Executive Society (LES) and Arab Society for the Protection of Intellectual Property (ASPIP) and had previously served as the Vice Chairman of Jordanian Intellectual Property Association (JIPA).
